Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding college graduates and professionals of all academic majors, career interests, and backgrounds who commit to teach for two years in underserved urban and rural public schools, and become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand opportunity for all. In the past 18 years, nearly 20,000 Teach For America teachers, whom we call corps members, have impacted approximately 3 million students. Our ability to prepare corps members for the classroom and the valuable skills they develop teaching in a low-income area led BusinessWeek to name
Teach For America as the 11th best place to launch a career.
This is something that you can be proud that your son, daughter, or friend is considering. It is also an experience that you can be a part of.
Click on the video player below to watch parents of corps members and alumni share their views on their son or daughter’s classrooms, development as leaders, and paths to the future. (Click on the grey tabs underneath the player to view all videos.)
In this section, you will learn more about the corps member experience from varying perspectives, including corporate executives, graduate school deans, and the parents of corps members. Teach For America is highly selective and accepted only 20 percent of applicants last year; this section will give you more information on how we select and rigorously train teachers to ensure success in the classroom. You will also have the opportunity to read about the financial benefits enjoyed by corps members and how the skills they develop in the classroom translate into career success.
We are excited that your child or friend is considering Teach For America. We hope that you employ our resources to understand what Teach For America’s corps of outstanding recent college graduates and working professionals is doing to fulfill their lives while impacting the priorities of our nation.
