Certification and Testing

In order to enroll in a certification program, corps members must take and pass both the Praxis I and Praxis II exams that are required for their placement. Applicants assigned to the Las Vegas Valley will receive more information about these exams once they are accepted.

Teach For America • Las Vegas Valley has established a partnership with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to allow corps members to pursue certification. Most corps members enroll in the dual Master's of Education and Teacher Licensure program. It is possible for corps members to successfully earn a master’s of education at the end of their two-year commitment, but Nevada requires three years of teaching experience to become eligible for licensure. Over 73 percent decide to continue to teach for a third year in order to obtain their Nevada state teaching license. In addition, it is possible for corps members to apply their UNLV licensure coursework toward licensure in many other states immediately upon completion of their two-year commitment.
