Benefits

Teach For America’s comprehensive compensation and benefits program is designed to help staff members meet their personal goals – whether related to health, finances, or providing for one’s family.

Compensation
We provide competitive compensation that is commensurate with an individual’s prior experience and position responsibilities. Yearly compensation increases are based on an individual’s contribution to the organization and changes in that contribution over time, the impact and scale of the role, and market factors.

Health benefits
Teach For America offers comprehensive medical, vision, dental, and prescription coverage. The vast majority (85-96 percent) of staff member health coverage is subsidized, and employee contributions start at less than $10 per pay period.

Flexible spending account
Teach For America’s flexible spending account allows eligible staff members to set aside up to $5,000 in a medical care spending account and up to $5,000 in a dependent care spending account each year.

Retirement plan
Eligible staff members may participate in Teach For America’s 403(b) plan from their first day of employment. Eligible staff members are offered matching 403(b) employer contributions after their first six months on staff. Teach For America will match 100 percent of employee contributions up to five percent of a staff member’s annual compensation.

Life and accident insurance
Eligible staff members are offered $50,000 of basic life/accident insurance at no charge.

Paid time off

Eligible staff members receive generous paid time off:

  • Three weeks of accrued vacation
  • Paid winter break between the end of December and New Year’s
  • 10 sick days

Family and parenting benefits

Parental/caregiver leave:

  • Six weeks of paid parental leave for adopting parents
  • Two weeks of paid leave for secondary caregivers
  • Two weeks unpaid family leave to care for an immediate family member with a serious health condition

Long-term disability coverage begins after 180 days of disability; 60 percent of salary is paid up to a monthly maximum of $12,500.
